Complete lawlessness in UP, alleges Congress
19-July-2019
The Congress on Friday slammed the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh for detaining party General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi in Mirzapur and said that there was complete lawlessness in the state.
Addressing the media, Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said: "Uttar Pradesh has become 'Aparadh (crime) Pradesh' under BJP rule. The Yogi government is now infamous for all crimes that happen in the state, be it murder, atrocities against women, robbery.
"There is complete lawlessness in Uttar Pradesh," Surjewala said.
He said on July 17, 10 members of tribal families, including three women, were killed in broad daylight in Sonebhadra.
"The attack by 200 men wielding guns and other weapons shows how the attack has been carried out under the Yogi government's nose and at his behest," he alleged.
He said when Priyanka Gandhi was going to visit the families in Sonebhadra, the Yogi government detained her.
"Why was she under police custody all day? Is this not a violation of her rights?"
Surjewala said that Priyanka Gandhi, being held at the Chunar guest house in Mirzapur, had stated that she intended to stay there until the government allows her to meet the families of the victims of violence.
Earlier, Congress leader K.C. Venugopal also blasted the Uttar Pradesh government for detaining Priyanka Gandhi. IANS
