The Andhra Pradesh government will develop a water grid in three phases to supply safe drinking water to the people across the state, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy announced on Friday.
At a review meeting, the Chief Minister directed the officials from Andhra Pradesh Drinking Water Supply Corporation (APDWSC) to expedite works to implement the water grid scheme in three phases and ensure that clean drinking water is supplied to people.
He wanted the first phase to cover Srikakulam, East Godavari, West Godavari and Prakasam districts. He asked officials to ensure that the Uddanam water project cover the entire district of Srikakulam.
The Chief Minister directed the officials to supply safe drinking water directly from the treatment plants to the homes of the people with kidney ailments in Uddanam area of Srikakulam. He asked them to prevent contamination of water in drinking water storage tanks and summer storage tanks.
The second phase of water grid will cover Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam districts and Rayalaseema region. Krishna, Guntur and Nellore districts will be covered in the third phase of the programme.
