31-August-2019
The police arrested a man on Saturday for allegedly giving triple talaq to his wife over dowry.
Peerbahor SHO Rizwan Ahmed told IANS: "An FIR was registered based on the victim's statement under the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019 and the accused Mohammad Ali, a resident of Alamganj, has been arrested."
The victim, a resident of Gaya district, is living with her sister at Ramana Mod since the last few days. She has alleged that her husband Ali came to their place on Friday evening and divorced her by pronouncing 'talaq' thrice, said Ahmed.
According to the police, Ali and the victim got married in 2016 after which she gave birth to a boy. But soon after this, Ali started demanding Rs 10 lakh from the victim's parents that resulted in frequent quarrels between both of them.
Parliament passed a law against triple talaq in its last session after which it has become a crime for a man to divorce his wife through triple talaq.
