MCD fake toll stickers mastermind arrested
19-September-2019
Haryana's Gurugram police have arrested a mastermind who sold 700 MCD fake stickers to cab drivers at a low price and duped toll operators at Rajokri border of lakhs of rupees.
Satyavrata Kundu, the kingpin of the racket, was arrested from his native place Rohtak on Thursday.
During interrogation, he revealed that he had made 1200 fake stickers (Toll Pass) at a printing press in Delhi with the help of a female partner and sold them at cheap rates to private cab drivers.
An official said that the MCD has fixed Rs 3000 as monthly pass fee for toll pass stickers.
This fraud by Kundu and his associates was detected for the first time on September 3 during manual checking of the bar codes of the stickers.
MCD toll collectors detected that 6 cab drivers bought stickers at Rs 2700 per sticker from some person. Following that, Santosh Gayakwad, the AGM of Rajokri toll plaza, had registered a case with Udyog Vihar police station.
The drivers were initially arrested by Gurugram police but were let off on bail as they were unaware of the fraud and their only mistake was to buy cheap stickers.
"Since the matter was very sensitive, we formed a special team to find the actual conspirators. During the probe, the team learnt that the accused had also contacted private cab aggregator (Uber) for selling the stickers. The company provided the name and photograph of Kundu," said Subhash Bokan, the PRO of Gurugram police.
During interrogation, Kundu revealed that the actual plan was made by his female partner who is a student of Delhi University. He had two people Chanchal and Rakesh employed on the toll fraud but the majority of employees are from Maharastra.
Gurugram police have arrested 9 persons so far including Kundu, Chanchal, Rakesh and 5 cab drivers. They duped the toll company of Rs 21 lakh through the fake stickers. Police recovered Rs 4 lakh from the possession of Kundu. His girlfriend and the printing press employees are yet to be arrested.IANS
