30-September-2019
Pakistan's Sindh province government has finally issued the terms of reference for a judicial probe into the death of a Hindu girl Nimrita Kumari, a final year student at Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU) in Larkana, who died under mysterious circumstances in her hostel room earlier this month.
According to reports in the Pakistani media, section officer (judicial) of the Home Department, Government of Sindh, sent a letter to the District and Sessions Judge, Larkana, mentioning the terms of reference for the judicial inquiry.
Terms of reference seek to ascertain and probe the cause of death, whether suicide or otherwise.
It also seeks to fix responsibility, identifying the individuals or group of individuals allegedly involved in the incident and to recommend further course of legal action in the matter.
Earlier, the provincial government had asked the District and Sessions Judge for a judicial probe without mentioning the terms of reference of the inquiry.
The District and Sessions Court had declined to conduct the inquiry saying the Sindh High Court has not given it the go ahead in the matter.
The probe started only after the Sindh High Court gave the green signal.
