PDP MP for GoM's visit to assess J&K situation
10-October-2019
People's Democratic Party (PDP) MP Nazir Ahmed Laway has expressed agreement with Union Home Minister Amit Shah that Jammu and Kashmir's present condition was due to the "Himalayan blunders committed by the past governments" and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to implement his 'sabka saath, sabka vikas, sabka vishwas' policy in the state.
In a letter to Modi, Laway has suggested a group of Ministers be sent to J&K to assess the ground situation and act on the "factual report" to frame "some concrete and practical political policy" to "win the hearts and minds of the people" of the state.
The Rajya Sabha member, whose party chief Mehbooba Mufti is under detention, has also appealed for release of all detained since revocation of Article 370 and restoration of telephone and internet services. He has also pitched for talks.
"I would also like to reciprocate what the Home Minister narrated in the Lok Sabha on June 28 that the Kashmir issue is a result of the Himalayan blunders committed by the past governments. Had the past governments fulfilled promises made to the people, the situation would not have been this worse," he wrote.
"It's the result of betrayal that bleeds us to this day. The youth of Kashmir feels dejected and hopeless; they are usually upset and sad. The sense of alienation is so deeply ingrained that you would hardly see happiness on their faces," the MP said.
The PDP and the BJP ran a coalition government in J&K from 2015 till June 2018, before parting ways.IANS
