Iran urges Turkey to stop military operation in Syria
10-October-2019
The Iranian Foreign Ministry on Thursday urged Turkey to stop its military operation in northern Syria.
Iran expresses its concerns about Turkey's military operation in Syria," Xinhua quoted the Iranian ministry as saying in a statement.
"Iran stresses the halt of Turkey's military operation and withdrawal of its forces from Syria due to the humanitarian situation and potential dangers for the civilians in the conflictual area," the statement added.
Iran "understands Turkey's security concerns", but believes the military operation would not be a solution for those concerns, it noted.
Following the recent US withdrawal from northern Syria, the Turkish forces on Wednesday launched a military campaign against Kurdish fighters in the region.
