AAP alleges BJP planning to register only 100 Delhi residents

Even as Union Urban Development Minister Hardeep Puri introduced a Bill in the Lok Sabha to regularise unauthorised colonies in Delhi, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday accused the BJP of planning to grant registry to only 100 people.
In a statement, the AAP said it believes that the Bill is a huge fraud in the name of regularising unauthorised colonies of the capital.
"BJP is trying to mislead the public before the upcoming elections. The law does not mean anything for the people if it does not lead to the registry of their homes reaching people's hands. Delhi's people have been waiting for their registry, not a law," it said.
The Arvind Kejriwal-led party accused the BJP of preparing to grant registration to only 100 residents.
Citing media reports, it said that "at the end of this entire process, the Central government will provide registry only for 100 residents before the upcoming Delhi assembly elections."
"A symbolic handover of the registry to a hundred people will be showcased. According to the reports, the BJP will provide registry to other people only after the elections. The question is, who will be these 100 people?" the AAP statement asked.
"And what is the fault of millions of people living in unauthorised colonies of Delhi who are awaiting registry for several decades? Why shouldn't they also be provided with the registry? This makes it clear that the BJP is also tracing the footsteps of the Congress," it added.
Slamming the Congress, the AAP said the grand old party had distributed provisional certificates in a similar manner just before the 2008 elections.
"BJP is going to hoodwink people with a symbolic handover of registry for 100 people. It is clear that the BJP has no intention to provide registry and this is just an election gimmick," it said.
Puri on Tuesday introduced the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Recognition of Public Rights of Residents in Unauthorised Colonies) Bill, 2019, which had been approved by the Union cabinet for its introduction in the ongoing winter session of Parliament for its consideration and passing.
The Bill, Puri said, will help in allowing the registration of properties and provide relief to the residents in Unauthorised Colonies of Delhi from registration charges and stamp duty.
Puri had said that the Bill will benefit over 40 lakh residents who have been residing in such colonies for years.IANS
