Two Iranin gang members arrested in Gurugram
10-December-2019
The Gurugram police on Tuesday arrested two foreigners, allegedly members of 'Irani gang' involved in robbing tourists in Gurugram and nearby areas, an official said. The two were arrested from Delhi's Lajpat Nagar.
The accused have been identified as Tayyab (59) and Ahshan (33), both natives of Tehran.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Preet Pal Singh said: "Turkmenistan national Kadyr Hayytbayev, who was here on a medical visa, and his sister Sanam were walking outside a guest house where they were staying around 4:30 p.m. They were intercepted by three people who were in a car".
One of the three asked them to show passports and demanded money for police verification, insisting the exercise was a normal activity to curb illegal stay of foreign nationals, Singh said.
The ACP said: "After checking the wallet, the three returned it to the victims. But when Hayytbayevs checked the purse, they found $2,000 missing from it".
The victim then contacted a company associated with the hospital which facilitates interpreters during treatment. Then, a representative of the company registered an FIR with the Gurugram Police, Singh said.
The police on Tuesday got a tip-off that two such persons are living in a rented accommodation in Delhi's Lajpat Nagar. Working on the information, the two were arrested from the spot, he said.
Singh said: "The accused came to the country on November 10 on a tourist visa. They have confessed to the crime and $984 were recovered from them. The Iranian Embassy has been informed about their arrest".IANS
