Govt lists out benefits for martyred J&K personnel

 Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, G. Kishan Reddy, said in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, that 3 security force personnel including an SPO have lost their lives between August 5 and December 5 this year. He gave the details of benefits given to the next of kin of those CAPFs personnel, Army personnel and Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel killed in line of duty.

The Minister was giving a written reply to a question regarding compensation to dependents of security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir.

Listing out the benefits that are to be given to the Next of Kin of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) personnel who sacrifice their lives in the course of duty, the minister said that Central Ex-gratia lump-sum compensation has been enhanced with effect from January 1, 2016 from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 35 lakh for death on active duty and from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 25 lakh for death on duty, as the case may be, to the next of kin of the deceased CAPF & AR personnel.

He added that next of keen of the deceased are entitled to get Liberalized Family Pension under Central Civil Service (Extra Ordinary Pension) Rules, 1939. Other service benefits like Death-cum-Retirement Gratuity (DCRG), Leave Encashment, Central Government Employees Group Insurance Scheme (CGEGIS), General Provident Fund (GPF) etc. were also highlighted by Reddy.

Financial Assistance or Scholarship to the children for education and Financial Assistance for daughter's or sister's marriage etc, Funds from 'Bharat Ke Veer', 'Operation Casualty Certificate', Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme were highlighted as some of the benefits the government is providing to our braves.

Detailing the ex-gratia lump sum compensation from Central Government, Reddy said Rs 25 lakh is given after death occurring due to accidents in the course of duty or duty attributable to acts of violence by terrorists. The amount rises to Rs 35 lakh for death occurring during enemy action in war or border skirmishes or death occurring while on duty in the specified high altitude, inaccessible border posts on account of natural disasters, extreme weather conditions, he informed.

He further added, that for death occurring during enemy action in international war or such war like engagement specifically notified, Rs 45 lakh is being provided. This is apart from the slew of insurances that our braves are being provided with.IANS
