Govt to present its view on quota in promotions today
10-February-2020
The Government on Monday said it will make a statement on promotion in government jobs in the light of the recent Supreme Court ruling which said that states were not bound to make reservation in promotions for government jobs.
Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Thawar Chand Gehlot and the Leader of the Rajya Sabha, said in the Upper House that the government was discussing the issue and will give its view at 2 p.m.
"The government is discussing the issue in detail and it will present its view in the House today itself at 2 p.m," Gehlot said.
Before this, many members of the Rajya Sabha raised the issue saying reservation in promotions for government jobs was fundamental right and guaranteed by the Constitution.
The Supreme Court in its judgement last Friday had said that there is "no fundamental right which inheres in an individual to claim reservation in promotions."-IANS
