Photographs of super cute pink toilets for women that have been crafted out of old buses, have popped up at various locations in Pune, and these have gone viral on social media.
Presenting "Ti": Mobile toilets exclusively for women by PMC, is how they have appeared on Twitter. All strawberry coloured, with pink festoons and balloons, these toilets are designed by modifying PMPML buses that have not been in use for commuting purposes.
These toilets are exclusively for women. The "Ti Toilet" project was launched in 2016 by entrepreneurs Ulka Sadalkar and Rajeev Kher. "Ti" means "her" in Marathi. These portable toilets are operated on solar-powered buses and are giving Pune women a safe space.
It is relatively affordable with five rupees per head and any woman can board the mobile toilets and use the facilities, breastfeed babies or purchase sanitary napkins and diapers.
As the photos went viral, Twitterati hailed the initiative and have flooded the social media with their reactions.
A user wrote, "This is good, I think some African countries also implement this like Nigeria, Sudan, Republic of Congo and other countries."
Another wrote, "Good initiative...but they should also provide a men's toilet, they are the ones who make the streets dirty."
A post read, "Wow! It's an innovative way of taking care of us - women hygiene along with doing away the inconvenience of finding a place to be relieved while traveling...Kudos!"
A user remarked, 'Very good initiative... Need more off these across India."- IANS
