Shampoo sachet pioneer launches ₹1 hand-sanitiser sachet
31-March-2020
Chennai-based FMCG conglomerate CavinKare has introduced hand sanitisers in 2 ML sachets priced at ₹1 per pack at a time when the product is in high demand in the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Considering most people don’t have access to quality hand sanitisers during this time, it is our responsibility to make the essential product accessible and affordable to every individual with utmost quality. The concept of launching the sanitiser in a sachet as well and making them available in a typical FMCG Kirana outlet is an ideal step to ensure the safety of the masses at this crucial time,” said C K Ranganathan, chairman and managing director, CavinKare.
CK Ranganathan, founder, CavinKare, says the hand sanitisers have been made affordable for the common man

In the 1980’s Ranganathan’s father had introduced the shampoo in sachets from the small town of Cuddalore district in Tamil Nadu. Later, Ranganathan started his own company with a single product, Chik shampoo in a 7 ml sachet, which was priced at 75 paise. CavinKare is now a Rs 1,600 crore turnover company.
Ranganathan is set to make his father’s vision of ‘Whatever the rich man can enjoy, the common man should be able to afford’ a reality again.
Talking about the launch of the low-priced hand sanitisers, Ranganathan said, “As a socially responsible organisation, we ensure that we play our role in a responsible way and contribute our part towards the safety of people residing across every nook and corner of the country.
“While it generally takes around 6 to 18 months for developing a new product, it is because of our R&D team, who had already researched about the sanitiser and kept the formulation ready, we were able to make this quality sanitiser available in the market in just two weeks’ time from its initiation.”
The hand sanitisers will also be available in ML, 50 ML, 90 ML, 400 ML, 800 ML and 5 litre packs.
