Wash tractors with soap after use: Goa advisory to farmers

Farm implements like tractors, power tiller, transport vehicles have to be washed with soap water each time after use, the Goa Agriculture Department said in its advisory to farmers on Friday.
The advisory has also urged farmers to avoid engaging large number of labourers for harvesting chores and maintain social distancing while conducting farming-related tasks.
"Wash the farm implements, tractors, power tiller, transport vehicles after their use at each time with soap water. Ensure proper drying of produce before storing to prevent pest infestation. Bags should be sundried for at least two-three hours before used for packing, advised the Agriculture Department," the advisory said.
"They have been also urged to take safety measures like social distancing while harvesting, threshing, transportation, having meals, taking rest, handling, loading, unloading of farm produce, including post-harvest operation apart from maintaining personal hygiene by washing the hands with soap at regular intervals to prevent spread of COVID-19," it further said.
The advisory comes at a time when harvesting of crops like paddy, vegetable, pulses, cashew, coconut and other crops has commenced throughout Goa. IANS
