Rs 1 crore for kin of health workers who die of COVID-19

The Delhi government on Tuesday has issued an order to provide compensation of Rs 1 crore for doctors, nurses, paramedical staff or sanitation workers, if they die of COVID-19 while on duty.
The Cabinet has on April 1 approved for the same in an emergency meeting and the Health Department issued the order on Tuesday.
The order from the Delhi Health Department said any person attending COVID-19 patients, "including doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, sweeper, or any other staff whether temporary or permanent, in government or private sector, if expire by contacting the disease during the discharge of his/her duty, his/her family shall be compensated with ex-gratia amount of Rs one crore, posthumously."
The order says the amount will be ultimately approved by the Chief Minister.
"Upon receiving the recommendation from the Medical superintendent/HOD/In-charge of the Hospital/Medical institute, the recommendation will be processed by Health and Family Welfare, Delhi governmentAand shall put up through Minister (Health)for the approval of the Chief Minister," it says.
Making the announcement for the same on April 1, Kejriwal had said that the staff fighting against coronavirus are no less than the soldiers fighting at the borders.-IANS
