From 90 Days at Wipro to Founding a Rs 268 Crore Empire: A Young Techie's Incredible Journey

Srikanth Iyer's HomeLane, a prominent player in personalised home interior solutions, has successfully clinched Rs 75 crore from its existing investors in a bridge round.
The funding will help accelerate HomeLane's growth trajectory and support its expansion plans.
Srikanth, an ambitious self-starter, laid the foundation of the company in 2014. Srikanth, who first started as a computer engineer at Wipro, realised his passion to work independently and left his job within 90 days.
His entrepreneurial journey began in 1993 when he started Total Solutions, a business dedicated to assembling and selling unbranded computers, leveraging the large cost difference between branded and unbranded systems due to high duties.
The venture turned profitable quickly, and by 1997-98, revenues touched a peak of Rs 6 crore. However, due to shrinking profit margins, Srikanth diversified into IT maintenance contracts.
By 2000, he pivoted again, co-founding Edurite Technologies, an edtech solutions provider, aiming to use technology to enhance education accessibility. Edurite was later bought by TutorVista in 2007 and Pearson in 2011.
In 2014, Iyer started HomeLane, sensing a massive opportunity in the home interiors market. Despite the initial challenges and no specific expertise in the area, he built the company brick by brick.
HomeLane saw a sharp rise in revenues from Rs 3 crore in 2015 to Rs 268 crore in 2021. HomeLane has since expanded to over 22 cities, through 50+ Experience Centres, becoming India's largest home interiors brand.
Tanuj Choudhry, a significant contributor to the growth of HomeLane, functions in the role of co-founder and Chief Operating Officer (COO).
Tanuj joined HomeLane in 2015 as Vice President - Growth and had a vital role in scaling the business through HomeLane's Franchise model and Design Partner program, while keeping the business asset-light.
Through technological interventions, tech-empowered expert designers, and project managers, the company has built a community of over 30,000+ happy customers across the country, over the last nine years.
The recent bridge round reiterates the confidence of HomeLane's investors in the company's vision and also highlights its potential to become the first profitable company in the home interior space.
HomeLane is on track to achieve profitability in FY24. The capital infusion significantly strengthens HomeLane's financial position, empowering the company to aggressively pursue growth opportunities in the 22 cities it has a presence across India.
Additionally, the funding also enables the scale-up of HomeLane's recently launched affordable segment brand, Doowup, which has received a very positive response since its introduction.
"We are absolutely stoked that our investors have reiterated their belief in HomeLane's vision," stated Srikanth Iyer, Co-Founder and CEO, and Tanuj Choudhry, Co-Founder and COO of HomeLane.
"This bridge round represents an important milestone for HomeLane, providing us with the resources to further scale the delivery of exceptional home interior solutions to our customers. We are excited to enter this next phase of growth and expansion."
Though the specific terms and conditions of the bridge round remain undisclosed, it is worth noting that the funding has been structured in a manner that aligns with HomeLane's long-term goals. - TWL Bureau
