Kauvery Hospitals Acquires Fortis Facility in Vadapalani, Becomes Second Largest Hospital Chain in Chennai

In a significant move to expand its healthcare services, Sri Kauvery Medical Care (India) Limited, popularly known as Kauvery Hospitals, has officially acquired the hospital business operations of Fortis Healthcare Limited located in Vadapalani, Chennai.
Kauvery Hospitals, a leading healthcare provider in South India, led by Dr. S Chandrakumar and Dr. S Manivannan, has developed a robust presence in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka over the last two decades.
Launched in 1999 as a 30-bed hospital, Kauvery Hospitals now encompasses a vast network of 9 facilities spread across six cities - Chennai, Trichy, Bangalore, Salem, Hosur, and Tirunelveli.
Offering over 2,000 beds, the hospital chain prides itself in delivering high-quality comprehensive care across various specialties including cardiology, oncology, neurology, renal sciences, orthopaedics, and organ transplants, among others.
The recent acquisition of the Fortis facility in Vadapalani, which boasts over 200 beds, is set to augment Kauvery's presence in Chennai significantly.
Coupled with their existing facilities at Alwarpet and Radial Road, Kauvery will now command over 750 beds in Chennai alone. This strategic acquisition aligns with Kauvery's ambitious plan to further extend its footprint in Chennai, aiming to provide more than 1,000 beds in the city within the coming 18 months.

“Kauvery is currently in the midst of a fast-paced expansion program, as it plans to reach 1,000 beds each by 2025 in Chennai, Bengaluru and Tamil Nadu clusters,” said Dr. Chandrakumar, Founder and Chairman of Kauvery Hospitals Group said.
“This ramp-up would mean that the network shall comprise of 15 hospitals spread across 7 cities in South India, with 3,000+ beds and shall likely go for an IPO, in the next 36 months. With this acquisition of the facility at Vadapalani, Kauvery Hospitals shall be the 2nd largest Hospital chain in Chennai and continue to focus on strengthening its leadership position in our existing markets.”
Dr. S Manivannan, Founder & Managing Director of Kauvery Group of Hospitals added that Kauvery Hospitals, with three hospitals in Chennai and nine more Hospitals spread across 5 cities, has established a strong presence in Tamilnadu and Bengaluru.
