Heavy Rainfall Alert: IMD Predicts Widespread Rainfall in Coming Days

Active monsoon conditions are likely to continue over northwest, central, and west India during the next three days and the Southwest Monsoon is likely to advance into remaining parts of the country during the next two-three days, the India Meteorological Department said on Wednesday.

In a statement, it said that in the coming three days, northwest India can expect light to moderate rainfall, which will be fairly widespread to widespread across Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Haryana.

The IMD also predicted that there is a chance of isolated heavy rainfall in east Rajasthan between June 28 and 30 and in Uttarakhand on June 29.

"Additionally, there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in these regions during the mentioned dates," it said.


In the next three days, central India can expect light to moderate rainfall, which will be fairly widespread to widespread across Madhya Pradesh.

"There will be isolated heavy falls accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning. Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha can also expect similar rainfall conditions within the next 24 hours," said the IMD.

West Madhya Pradesh is likely to experience isolated very heavy rainfall till June 30 while east Madhya Pradesh can expect heavy rainfall in coming days.


The IMD predicted that over the next five days, west India can anticipate light to moderate rainfall, which will be fairly widespread to widespread.

Konkan, Goa, Gujarat, and the Ghat areas of central Maharashtra are expected to receive isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Additionally, there is a likelihood of isolated extremely heavy rainfall in the Konkan region and Gujarat from Wednesday.


The east and adjoining northeast India can expect fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall in the coming five days. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh are likely to experience isolated heavy to very heavy falls. Jharkhand, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, and Bihar may also witness isolated heavy rainfall, with Bihar experiencing showers till June 30.

The IMD further said that over the next five days, south India can expect light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall. "Kerala, Mahe and coastal & south interior Karnataka are likely to experience this rainfall. Coastal Karnataka can expect isolated heavy rainfall during this period, while Kerala will experience it on June 29 and July 2. South Interior Karnataka can expect isolated heavy rainfall on July 2," it added.- IANS
