Award announced for journalism of courage and compassion

Entries are invited for a competition organized by The Press Institute of India (PII) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), New Delhi, for print media journalists on the theme, ‘Reporting on the fate of victims of armed violence – Humanitarian stories.
The award is to recognize the courage shown by journalists while reporting from “scenes of action, caring little for their own welfare and safety.”
The first prize comes with a cash award of Rs.50,000. The second and third prize winners get cash awards of Rs.30,000 and Rs.20,000 respectively.
Journalists who may have published an interesting article on humanitarian issues linked to a situation of armed violence can make their submissions to [email protected] or send by post to ‘Press Institute of India, Rind Premises, Second Main Road, Taramani CPT Campus, Chennai 600113’.
Rules for sending in entries
Entries should be sent before 15th August 2012 and the results will be announced in late October 2012. The article should have been published in an Indian national or regional newspaper or magazine between April 2011 and April 2012 in any Indian language or in English. The Participating candidate will have to produce the proof of his or her article published in the respective newspaper or magazine. The exact English translation of an article in Indian language should be provided otherwise the entry will be rejected. The decision of the Jury will be final.
