Cognizant makes record job offers at VIT University

A record number of 1820 students at the VIT University campus in Vellore got job offers on a single day from IT major Cognizant.

“Cognizant’s 1,820 job offers made at VIT University is the highest that any company, from any industry, has made in a single campus across the country. We have not heard of such a record even in other countries. This is a reward for VIT’s commitment to providing quality higher education on par with international standards,” said Dr. G. Viswanathan, Chancellor, VIT University.

He said VIT has achieved this distinction - of securing the highest number of campus placements of a single company in a single campus in the whole of the country – for the last five years.

According to him, the 2008 batch students secured 789 placements in TCS, 2009 batch 1075 in TCS, 2010 batch 803 in TCS, 2011 batch 1643 in Cognizant and 2012 batch 1820 in Cognizant.

The campus placement season at VIT for 2012 batch started by end of July with visits from ‘Dream Companies’ such as Amazon, EBay, Schneider, Thoughtworks, Honda, Maruti, Tata Motors, Google, Netapp, Vmware, Deloitte, National Instruments, Michelin, McKinsey, and Ashok Leyland.

Viswanathan said 201 students have found dream offers with salaries ranging from Rs.4.5 lakhs per annum to Rs.10.5 lakhs per annum.

“Flipkart, a software Company with a package of Rs.12.5 Lakhs per annum would be visiting VIT this week for campus placements. Earlier, Deloitte had recruited 52 of our students with a CTC of Rs.4.63 Lakhs per annum,” he said.

Recalling the long association that VIT University has had with Cognizant, Viswanathan said, “Cognizant and VIT University have been key partners in growth for well over a decade. In addition to recruiting students, Cognizant has driven and participated in many industry-academia linkage programs.”

“Specifically, Cognizant has helped VIT University pioneer an M. Tech. program in Software Development and Management for Cognizant employees—a first-of-its-kind program that marries technology with management. Cognizant and VIT University have jointly structured the syllabi and curricula, and designed the assessment modalities,” he added. TWL Bureau
