Triloki Das Khandelwal, a pioneer who worked for the rights of the senior citizens in the country, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 87.
Khandelwal owned the historic Nawab Saheb Ki Haveli in the four walls of the Pink City's Tripoliya and was the secretary general of the Social Security Foundation (SSF) that took up the cause of social benefits for the senior citizens.
It is largely due to the initiative taken by the SSF, that the Union government started the pension scheme for the senior citizens and now over 10 million senior citizens are getting old age pension and also health benefits.
He was known for his knowledge about modern Jaipur's history and was consulted by authors and writers on issues related to the city.
The Nawab Saheb Ki Haveli on Tripoliya is one of the Pink City's oldest mansions where once the architect of Jaipur, Vidyadhar and later the Prime Minister of Jaipur Nawab Faiz Ali Khan lived.
Khandelwal's family bought this historical haveli from the family of late Nawab Faiz Ali Khan.
Triloki Das was also known for safeguarding and conserving old monuments.
He did his graduation from Rajasthan University and was awarded a gold medal for his academic achievements.
He was also the general secretary of Maharaja's College Students Union in the late fifties. IANS
